Our neighborhood is expecting below freezing nights beginning early Sunday morning (01/19/2025). By Monday morning we’ll be in the low 20s.
To protect your plants:
* Water all plants EXCEPT cactus types (agave, yucca, sedum)
* Cover everything newly planted this fall to the ground with good frost cloth. This is the heavy white cloth sold at good nurseries. This cloth will keep the temperature inside the cloth 7-10 degrees higher than outside. Green Plankets aren’t nearly as good. Blankets and towels will work in a pinch.
* Cover all cold tender perennials, regardless of when they were planted.
* Move pots inside that you can. Garage is ok
* Pots that you can’t move inside, group if possible and cover to the ground
* Winter annuals like snapdragons and pansies should be ok
* Mulching the root zone of young plants will help too
